Check It-Goodbye 2015!

Fitness, Travel, Uncategorized a month in so far into 30 for 30 and it’s coming to the end of 2015. Shit is getting real. Like really real.  Making some progress but still got a long way to go. Let’s just talk about 2015. Hell of a learning year for me..personally, professionally, and mentally. Between work, my relationships, and just life in general… I mean we go through things that we may not want to at the time or even the moment up to know but we learn from it. I totally believe things happen for a reason so we learn and grow from it, no matter how great or shitty things get…there’s a purpose..there’s a reason.

These actions have set me up for 2016 to be better. My 30 for 30 list will help me only become better and to grow.

So where am I in my list so far…..

2. Run a full marathon. Always wanted to do this, but just never set the goal/time to make it happenSIGNED UP! I will be running in the Delaware Running Festival on May 8th. I picked this one for a few reasons… 1.) I grew up in Delaware…REPPIN the 302! 2.) ummm flat state? yes please. 3.) Weather is good in the spring 4.) Didn’t want to spend a ton of $$ traveling for it and I wanted family to come
So here we go! First marathon is lined up. To keep me motivated I will be joining the You vs. The Year Challenge with Under Armour–great way to stay inspired and motivated.

10. Read 5 books. Just like writing growing up, I have enjoyed reading more in my life now. Never finish a damn book. Time to make it happen. You are a Badass Book
OKAY—so I haven’t read all 5.. butttt I started on one and I am almost done. Finishing up on “You Are A Badass” by  Jen Sincero. Book review coming soon but really digging this book.

17. 1 day a month make zero plans..nothing. So so so hard for me. I can’t sit still and just need to make sure I make zero plans for 1 day out of the month. This is a hard one for me.

On the schedule–  Gunpowder Falls TrailDecember 17th–no plans… holy hell it happened and it was amazing. What did I do.. slept in, made breakfast, drank coffee, and then went for a hike in Gundpowder with my pup. The Franks had a blast, we cranked out about 5 miles that day and with this crazy weather it was 65.  Just myself, fresh air and the woods… yes that Delaware kid came out of me.

Next planned no plans day–Sunday, January 24th.

21. Plan a date night 3x a month. Realizing how much date nights are important. Make time for us together.
So I haven’t been keeping track on this one but what I do know that we have spending more time home together. We have been venturing out in the neighborhood trying new places to eat. I have to keep track on this. But this month it’s been a blast..
posted is my post game face when the Ravens beat the Steelers…he is a Ravens fan.. and I am a Steelers fan. Yeah. I mean Ravens are on a losing streak and some how the Steelers lose. I’m done.

ravens and steelers game

24. Take 2 vacations with boyfriend. Can’t remember the last time we took a vacation together. NO bueno.
WHAT?? SAN DIEGO IN A WEEK! We are heading out to sunny San Diego next week the 5th-10th.. Trip on the books… where to next?

25. Keep a journal of daily thoughts. Writing that sh*t out every day is relieving. I hold things in…like a lot. So writing it out feels good.
I have a journal that I have been writing in 2-3x week.. starting somewhere but damn does it feel good to write it all out before you go to bed or thoughts when you first wake up. Keep track of life. Sure it’s not every day but it’s good to do it when I can…that’s all we can do.

Chipping away day by day.. it’s a start. Leaving this to mind as we enter into 2016. It’s now or never kids.

30 in 30

Just hitting a month after my 30th birthday today, I have been promising myself to post a very important list that I want to do my 30th bday year. Now I don’t know about you, but I was basically scared shitless turning 30. I am not married, no kids, and still trying to figure out what I want to do with my life. Typically people look at you crosseyed wondering why I don’t have a ring on my finger and chasing kids. Well folks, I am still trying to chase my dreams and experience life. That’s something I keep telling myself and it’s totally fine!

My 20’s were a great, emotional, and crazy experience. So many mistakes and lessons from those. Graduating from college, moving to Baltimore, starting my first real job, breakups and makeups, new relationships, etc…so many lessons. But now hitting 30, I feel like it’s the next chapter. The next chapter for greatness and to take those lessons with me. With that next chapter, I wanted to kick it off with something amazing for myself.

Here it is… the 30 things I want to do in my 30th year. I feel like there are so many things that I want to experience, accomplish, and just feel but I just keep pushing them to the side. But now I am 30, it’s time to write out that list and make shit happen. I will keep you up to date on what I check off this list. It’s everything from trying something new, training for an accomplishment, challenging myself within my weakness and all the way doing something that I never imagined of doing.

  1. Try to create a simple life. Sometimes, life just gets too complicated and we forget the little things that are important. Trying to just simplify some things to make it easier to breathe.
  2. Run a full marathon. Always wanted to do this, but just never set the goal/time to make it happen.
  3. Pay off a bill earlier than it’s due date. I always wait until the last very date to pay the bill off that it’s due..why not pay something off earlier. Goddd that would feel amazing!
  4. Take a writing class. Hated writing growing up, much better presenter but now I want to learn how to build my weakness.
  5. Ski again. ah yes, gave this up after tearing my ACL 3 years ago. Time to get my ass back on the slopes.
  6. Take a girls trip. Sometimes you just need to some girl time to let loose.
  7. Visit my best friend in Colorado. My best friend Michelle moved a few years ago to Colorado. It’s way over due to visit.
  8. Attend 3 concerts. Love live concerts–need to commit in going and buy tickets. Now–what concerts?!
  9. Apply to business school. Always a goal of mine. I always enjoyed school and learning more. It’s important to continue education.
  10. Read 5 books. Just like writing growing up, I have enjoyed reading more in my life now. Never finish a damn book. Time to make it happen.
  11. Pick a charity to help all year long. I have one in mind, now just need to make it happen.
  12. Take a self vacation. Alone time is always good for the mind and spirit.
  13. Take care of myself better. Sleep, eating, stress, and all the above. I am starting to realize the crazy scheduling and non-stop isn’t doing the body good. Time to recognize and get it right.
  14. Visit my family 1x/month. I know..I know just 1x a month. You will be surprise how it just doesn’t happen. But it needs to.
  15. Do a longer triathlon, more than a sprint-tri. I did my 1st sprint tri this year and loved it. Now I want to actually train for one that’s longer. A good challenge.
  16. Take a reiki class. Starting to enjoy learning about the energies in your body. Good to know knowledge.
  17. 1 day a month make zero plans..nothing. So so so hard for me. I can’t sit still and just need to make sure I make zero plans for 1 day out of the month. This is a hard one for me!
  18. Travel to a new state that I have never been before. I have traveled a lot in my life. Only states that are left for me are the following: Idaho, Iowa, Washington, the Dakotas, Alaska, Oklahoma, Kansas, Rhode Island, Michigan, Wisconsin… so basically a lot of cold and not much happening places to visit. Why not?
  19. Take a photography class. I would love to start taking photos but understanding photography as a whole.
  20. Attend a new cooking class. Expand my cooking skills. There are only so many healthy meals a girl can cook.
  21. Plan a date night 3x a month. Realizing how much date nights are important. Make time for us together.
  22. Try a new class of yoga. Thinking aerial yoga.
  23. Build a business plan for health coaching. I finished my health coaching program this past September now I want to practice on clients.
  24. Take 2 vacations with boyfriend. Can’t remember the last time we took a vacation together. NO bueno.
  25. Keep a journal of daily thoughts. Writing that sh*t out every day is relieving. I hold things in…like a lot. So writing it out feels good.
  26. Meditate. Must shut off brain and take a breather.
  27. Go camping. Great outdoors, love it every moment of it. Never been real camping before.
  28. Ride my bike more. I have a bike but I use it maybe 2x a month.
  29. Go to a networking event. It’s good to connect with others and expand your network of peeps.
  30. Host a dinner party. I love entertaining people and letting people have a good time on my watch. Must be the previous event experience in me. We moved and I love our new I want to host a party.

Putting this list up made feel a bit vulnerable. I’ve shared a lot of information about myself here, even if it doesn’t look like it but it’s a lot! These things are a sampling of my goals in life, my philosophies, my thoughts and my passions. It’s all out on the table now! Let’s see what happens. Please feel welcome to share your own goals and/or tips below in the comments.

Sundays are Awesome!

Routine #Sundays

Fitness, Food

It’s been absolutely crazy busy and can’t even believe Thanksgiving is in 2 weeks… but here we are.. hi November!

October was busy between the new move, work events, and my bday. I live for the busy life, I love the hustle about it and it definetly keeps me on my toes.  But times like this weekend, just be home and get back to a routine is such an amazing feeling. Sunday’s I think though are my absolutely favorite. I try to keep my Sunday routine to make sure I am recharged, taking the moment for myself to appreciate the things around me, and soak it all in.

So what does my typical Sunday look like?

Sundays are Awesome!

Sundays are Awesome!

Sleeping in–yes!! Must do, and I mean by sleeping in. I get excited if it’s 7-7:30AM. Typically during the week I wake up at 5AM.

For the morning, I head to the Baltimore Farmer’s Market bright and early. If you get there too late, then it’s totally packed. So best to be there around 8AM!

Sunday mornings at Baltimore Farmers Market
First stopDooby’s lines and perfection coffee in a cup. People don’t realized how great their coffee is and it’s right across from Blacksauce.

Dooby's Coffee

Next–I stop at my key places to stock up for the week.
-Apples: Right now with it being apple season, I picked out a thing of Pink Ladies. After tasting every single slice that was out on the table.

 Apple Tasting
-Eggs: Two dozens of eggs for $6–amazing!
-Other veggies–I have this one stand who always have the right veggies. Today I stocked up on acorn squash and spaghetti squash(only $3, typically at the grocery store it’s at least $6)

Squash Season
For the finish–fresh flowers! I always have fresh flowers in the house. Just lightens up the room and just adds some character. However today they had dried flowers for the season. Absolutely love them but the flower heads fall off very easy and it’s everywhere. But they look fabulous!

Mid-morning: I sip on some coffee and try to catch up on emails, projects, and reflections for the week. I am obsessed with my Passion Planner–helps me focus for the upcoming week.

Work it out! Typically I like to do yoga on Sundays to rest and reset my body and mind. I have signed up for MPower Yoga and really enjoying their classed.

During the afternoon/evening..Family Time: I make sure I spend some extra time with my boyfriend and my little fur baby! Can you tell Franklin loves me asking him to pose? lol!!

Evening.. cooking time! All the great foods I got from the market, I love cooking for the week to make sure my foods are ready to go for the week. Also, I try to spend a little more time on cooking a new recipe for dinner.

Prep Time!

Right before bed—oh yes. Binge watching on shoes. Walking Dead and The Affair. Can’t. Get. Enough.

ps…that sunset though. #amazing #soakitup

Positive Vibes & Friday #RemixRide

This past Friday I helped host a #RemixRide at Rev Cycle Studio with the one and only Nick Rod, co-leader of the November Project here in Baltimore. The place was packed with some of the most inspiring and dedicated people…I mean who else shows up on a Friday night at 6pm to sweat their asses off!! It’s something about being surrounded by like minded people who want to work hard. It motivates you and you motivate them. It’s contagious….

When you’re surrounded by good people, you’re surrounded by life. You’ll be less stressed and find more joy in daily things. Today, make a commitment to start spending more time with the good people in your life.

Some Fall Cookin!

Food, Recipes

I have to say.. I really love summer. Like..REALLLLY love it. BUT..I have a hidden love for fall as well. I mean it’s football season, it’s my birthday time(Oct 22nd), new foods in the mix, and time to whip out cute fall boots and scarves. I think with this really crappy weather(thanks Hurricane Joaquin) did me in. I have been sleeping for 10 hours a night and just hibernation mode. Yes, hello fall.. you are here.

Doing my weekly grocery haul, I walked into Whole Foods and the fall goods were there waiting. Perfect timing to prep for some Sunday meals. I picked up some spaghetti squash, sweet potatoes and butternut squash.

Fall Produce

Today I am whipping up some sweet potato turkey chili and butternut squash soup.

Let’s start with the Sweet Potato Turkey Chili:

Sweet Potato Turkey Chili:
1.5lbs of Ground Turkey–the leaner the better. I like the 99%.
1 bottle of Tabasco chili starter– adds some spice to the mix
1 can of chickpeas
1 chopped up sweet potato-cubed
1 small bag of frozen onions
1 small bag of frozen chopped peppers

Toss everything in a crock pot and set the temp to low. Allow it to cook for 5-6 hours. AND BAM!  You are done my friend.

Crockpot for Sweet Potato Turkey Chili

Top with your favorite chili toppings. I love avocado on mine!

Sweet Potato Turkey Chili

Butternut Squash Soup
1 butternut squash–prefer something bigger depending on how much soup you want to make
1 cup of coconut milk
Spices–fresh rosemary, salt, pepper, pumpkin spice

1.) Bring a large pot of water to boil
2.) Toss whole butternut squash in there until it’s cooked
3.) Cut the squash in half…BE CAREFUL–it’s going to be hot. Scrap out all seeds and toss, then scoop out butternut squash into blender/food processor and leave the skin.
4.) Blend butternut squash, coconut milk, and spices into blender until consistency is like soup.
5.) If you are serving right away, pour soup into crockpot to stay warm on low. If you are serving for later–pour into tupperware containers for later in the week!

What are your favorite fall recipes?
